NuGen has been announced as the main sponsor of the Nuclear Institute’s (NI) 69th annual North West Branch Dinner – which will take place on 19th May at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club.
Around 500 attendees are expected at the event which brings together all aspects of the nuclear industry in Manchester, at the centre of the UK’s Northern Powerhouse.
NuGen CEO, Tom Samson, will speak about Europe’s largest new nuclear development at Moorside in West Cumbria and Gwen Parry Jones OBE will also deliver an address.
Nuclear Institute’s North West Branch Chair, Monica Mwanje, welcomed the support from NuGen and Tom Samson. She said: “NuGen’s Moorside project will deliver seven per cent of the UK’s electricity requirements from a low-carbon sustainable source here at the centre of the Northern Powerhouse – so it’s excellent to see the company’s support for the NI by sponsoring the North West Branch dinner.”
The sponsorship is part of an agreement for closer ties between NuGen and the NI. The NI will assist NuGen in outlining their nuclear culture and industry learning resources to some of NuGen’s new recruits. There will be an emphasis on encouraging NuGen staff to become involved in NI activities - especially Women in Nuclear and the Young Generation Network.
John McNamara, Head of Corporate Communications at NuGen, said the relationship was a key part of NuGen’s journey. “NuGen is creating a world-class delivery team and closer relations with the Nuclear Institute will stand us in good stead as our workforce increases.”
