NuGen CEO, Tom Samson, has addressed the Nuclear Industry Association’s annual conference - #Nuclear powering the UK.
Mr Samson told 250 delegates that nuclear new build is essential in providing the UK with security of electricity supply and that to be serious about climate change, nuclear needed to be part of the mix. He said: “NuGen is a maturing UK nuclear company with extensive experience, world-leading technology and with a focus on delivery.
“NuGen’s Moorside Project to develop the UK’s largest nuclear power station will generate up to 3.6GW - equivalent to seven per-cent of the UK’s electricity requirements generated from a sustainable low-carbon source.”
#Nuclear brings together speakers from across industry and government to showcase a year of achievement and demonstrate the valuable contribution nuclear power provides to the UK.
Tom was followed by Jeff Benjamin, Senior Vice President, New Plants and Major Projects for Westinghouse who gave an AP1000® Plant Projects Overview.
NuGen was main sponsor of the 2015 #Nuclear – powering the UK conference, recognised widely as the UK’s top nuclear conference. Energy Minister, Andrea Leadsom, also shared a platform with Tom Samson when she addressed delegates on the recent Department of Energy & Climate Change policy re-set, which puts new nuclear build at the heart of the Government’s future energy strategy.
