Tom Samson, NuGen CEO, told over 340 guests at the 8th annual UK Nuclear Skills Awards that Moorside will be the engine of the Northern Powerhouse”.The Awards, organised by the National Skills Academy Nuclear (NSAN) and Cogent Skills, provides the industry with a unique opportunity to showcase excellence in workforce development through the celebration of a number of awards from apprentice to graduate level.

NuGen were main sponsor of the event for the second year running, reflecting the UK nuclear company’s commitment to developing the skills required for the next generation of nuclear power in Britain. NuGen is powering forward with the Moorside Project to build a new nuclear power station in West Cumbria - capable of generating up to 3.6GW of low-carbon electricity.

Mr Samson added: “These awards are a fantastic showcase for our industry and I am truly delighted that there was an equal split between male and female finalists and, for the first time, all the winners of the Advanced Apprentice awards were women. I congratulate all the winners and finalists and I am excited about the calibre of the next generation of people working in the nuclear industry”.
