NuGen has welcomed the launch of the National College for Nuclear - and the announcement that one of the nuclear hubs will be based in West Cumbria, the UK’s nuclear heartland.
A Nugen spokesman said: “A skilled workforce is fundamental to the success of the Moorside Project and the National College for Nuclear will be pivotal in meeting the future skills requirements of the nuclear industry, and help establish West Cumbria as the Centre of Nuclear Excellence.”
NuGen plans to build three AP1000® reactors, located close to Sellafield, with a combined capacity of 3.4GW - enough to power six million homes. During the operational phase, the project will generate more than 1,000 jobs in the region.
