NuGen, the U.K. nuclear new build developer, has scooped two prestigious awards at a top Public Relations award ceremony.
NuGen, along with long-time communications agency partner Marick, won two awards in the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) North West PRide awards – recognising excellence and innovation in communication campaigns.
NuGen won silver awards in the Community Relations category, for its successful Green Grants scheme supporting community groups in West Cumbria improve and promote approaches to environmental sustainability.
NuGen later won another silver award in the Education Communications category for the implementation of its Bright Sparks campaign, aimed at schools close to its site at Moorside, West Cumbria. Bright Sparks won praise from local school teachers for creating interest in energy issues, promotion of low-carbon sources, energy efficiency, and the potential for school-leavers to consider working in electricity production. CIPR judges also recognised the campaign’s fresh approach to industry working with schools to inspire and empower pupils to make a difference.
NuGen’s Head of Corporate Communications, John McNamara, said he was delighted with the recognition from peers in the industry. “This success is testament not just to the hard work of the past two years, but to the creativity and flair of my team and our agency partners.
“We have completed two public consultations which have garnered record levels of feedback from the general public due to the eye-catching and easy to use consultation materials. We have taken the same ethos into our Green Grants and Bright Sparks community campaigns, and we are all thrilled to have been recognised by the UK’s top Public Relations professionals.”
Earlier at the event, at Manchester’s Midland Hotel, the Hillsborough Families’ Support Group were given a special honour by the Chartered Institute for their tireless 30-year campaign for truth and justice for the victims of the Hillsborough tragedy.
The CIPR is the leading representative body for the public relations profession and industry in Europe.
